Why I Love Arizona (and You Will, Too!)

I’m a native of California, growing up in the beautiful wine country of Napa Valley. I always enjoyed travel and upon graduation from college, I went to work in the hotel industry working for both Hyatt and Doubletree hotels.

I lived in some gorgeous places around California, including Huntington Beach and later Carmel by the Sea, but I always wanted to sell a destination. Yes there are jobs out there were you “sell” your city to large conventions and meeting planners. I got that opportunity in 1986 when I was offered a position with the Greater Phoenix Convention and Visitors Bureau. There I was thrown head first into learning everything wonderful about Arizona!

Shortly after moving to Arizona I met my husband, a native Arizonian (a rare breed–almost as rare as a native Californian). My husband worked for the widely popular magazine Arizona Highways as an editor, so thankfully I had someone by my side who really knew the history, the flora, fauna and what to see and do. He taught me many things, including how to say Saguaro (rhymes with tomorrow and Prescott (like a biscuit) – if you pronounce them any other way, people will know you’re not from Arizona!

I’d meet with people all over the world educating them about Arizona (Phoenix, Scottsdale) in a effort for them to bring their meetings, incentives and conventions here. It wasn’t hard to sell! Once when I was on a business trip to New York, my client honestly thought I got to work on horseback (true story)! Over the years, as much I love the grandeur and beauty of Sedona and the Grand Canyon, my heart (and home!) belongs to Scottsdale, where the little things can mean so much: drinking coffee on our patio in the early mornings, enjoying sunset barbecues with our neighbors, our laid back way of life, the friendly people, the sound of mourning doves, bunnies running through our yard and the sight of a mama Quail and her little ones following close behind.

Here are a few more reasons why I love Arizona. And why you just might fall in love with Arizona, too!

  • Being from California, I probably would never have realized the dream of owning my own home had I chosen California over Arizona. My home in Scottsdale would probably cost double (or more!) in Northern CA, where I’m originally from.
  • There is always something to do here! Beautiful mountains to hike, trails to bike/walk on and great drives to take.
  • Wonderful restaurants, entertainment, and easy access to it all. The new freeways make everything so easy to get to!
  • Did I mention Spring (which of course starts in the winter here!)? The smell of the citrus blossoms is candy to your nose!
  • I can BBQ year round!
  • It’s relaxed and casual here. You can dress up if you want to go out to dinner, but don’t be surprised if the couple next to you is in their shorts!
  • It’s friendly here. People just seem to be more relaxed and nicer here than many of the other places I’ve lived.
  • If you want to go to the beach, it only takes about 5 or so hours to drive to San Diego, a favorite spot of Arizonians in the summer. Or, if you prefer, Rocky Point (Mexico) is even closer (about 4 hours drive).
  • In as little as 90 minutes, you can head up North (I like Prescott) and spend a cool weekend in the mountains in the summer.
  • You can drive to Flagstaff in about 2 hours if you like to ski.
  • We have wonderful produce here… either at the grocery store or the many roadside stands where they sell fresh everything!
  • The scenery is beautiful here, surrounded by mountains such as the McDowells and Camelback. And if you’ve never experienced an Arizona sunset, you’re in for a huge treat.
  • The Phoenix metropolitan area has great shopping. In about 5 or 10 minutes you can drive to many different shopping centers. And because it’s such nice weather here most of the time, you’ll find some great outdoor shopping centers. Kierland in Scottsdale and the Biltmore Fashion Mall in Phoenix are two of my personal favorites.
  • It’s inexpensive to fly to many places like California & Nevada (Las Vegas). Many times I’ve found it’s cheaper to fly than to drive!
  • Sports! Home to the 2001 World Champion Arizona Diamondbacks, NFL Football, NBA Basketball, NHL Hockey, NASCAR, professional tennis and rodeo events. If you like sports, like I do, you’ll love it here!
  • Golf galore! With over 300 golf courses, not to mention host of the FBR Open and LPGA tournaments, golf enthusiasts just love it here (and I enjoy the annual gathering at the Bird’s Nest)!

I could go on and on about reasons I love it here, but you can be the judge for yourself and come for a visit. This place sells itself! And when you do decide to move here, please contact us so that I can help you find YOUR dream home!

People Are Talking…

We would highly recommend Echo and in fact, we already have! I also keep a stack of her business cards nearby just in case.

The Day's, Canada
I had worked with Echo Farrell in the past, and because of her integrity and diligence, I called her on Thursday, February 8th to let her know that I needed her expertise once again. By the end of the day I had received a number of homes to look at, and by the next Friday Echo we had a contract on a house. Echo Farrell is not only a competent realtor, more importantly she is person of the highest ethics and work habit. I have had experiences with a number of realtors in the past 20 years, and unfortunately I found all but one other to be lacking in integrity and the work ethic I have seen with Echo Farrell.
Dr. Dennis Pena
Since we located from out-of-state, Echo’s knowledge of the area and warm hospitality were an added plus (she’s lived in the Valley for 20 years and previously worked for the Phoenix/Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, so she really knows how to make us newcomers feel welcome). Echo did not just find us a house; she helped find a community and a home that truly suits our lifestyle.

The Ciarleglio's
If you are looking to buy or sell a home, then you need Echo. She by far exceeds your expectations. She is a hard working dedicated real estate agent that treats you like family. Going the extra mile to make sure you are extremely happy with her service is second nature.
Tammy Ceroni
Not only would I recommend Echo, I already have! I recently had Echo sell our Fountain Hills home. She understood this niche market, had the network to properly market the property but most of all got it SOLD! From listing to close was under 60 days! A real estate colleague of mine who lives and works in Mexico, recently asked for three names of trusted agents in the Valley-Echo was at the top of my list.

Tim Beglin
I cannot recommend Echo Farrell more highly as a potential realtor to handle your real estate transaction. I am so grateful that she was the person we selected for our real estate activity. I would recommend her without reservation to anyone looking to purchase or sell property in the Scottsdale area.
Jeff & Lori Adamus, Scottsdale
The customer service provided by you and your team has been exceptional; both pre-sale and post-sale. Your no-pressure, relaxed approach was greatly appreciated. Your willingness to listen to what we wanted and your extensive knowledge of Phoenix area certainly made the process much easier.

The Joyces, Calgary
I just wanted to thank you for all your assistance, the referrals, professionalism, and efficiency you so kindly provided. Echo, you made everything very effortless for me. I appreciate everything you’ve done and I look forward to seeing you again sometime in the future.

J. Wilde
...The townhouse is the right size. I work out of my home and it is big enough so that I do not feel “closed in” but still affordable and appropriate. So when Echo says My #1 priority is helping you buy or sell your dream home, it is absolutely.

H. Stone
Thank you for your attention and responsiveness! Your remote buyer.

C. Candia
Selection of a Realtor is paramount under the current market conditions. Your professionalism and organizational support was key to our success. We appreciate your attention to detail and communication skills which made this long distance transaction possible.

The Hatmans
Because of my husband’s job situation, we had to find a house fast! In just one day we saw a number of homes that met our criteria and made an offer on a home that very same day. By that evening our offer was accepted and we returned home to CA with the happy knowledge we were the proud owners of a beautiful home in Scottsdale. The ease and efficiency of working with Echo speaks volumes for her skills as a Realtor.

The Rao's
You’re truly amazing. We had this deal going for almost three weeks yet the buyer was quite “non-responsive” and causing us great stress! Within 24 hours after you stepped in, we had a signed PA, complete with a back-up lender, if necessary. You have saved, quite literally, Christmas for four families (including my buyer). Thank you!

D. Smith, New Mexico
Echo, what can I say that hundreds of others have not already said. You are wonderful and it was such fun working with you! When we finally make our final move to Arizona, there is no doubt who I will contact.
